You can't heat south of the Yangtzegepostet am 03. March 2010 um 15:26I was in Shanghai in December and am here again in March, and it is really cold and unpleasant. As I have rented my own apartment, we are enjoying the old Chinese rule: "You can't heat south of the Yangtze!" For softy Europeans like us, it's a bummer! Apartments in modern tower blocks are equipped with air conditioning, but these aren't really efficient at providing heat. It's also a case of inadequate insulation. There are draughts at all the windows, and the floors and walls are ice-cold; with air heating they hardly warm up at all. Energy efficiency is something else: we let the heating run continually until it's halfway endurable. Once it's turned off again, you can see the thermometer tumbling. And it's all powered by electricity ⦠There's obviously a need to catch up when it comes to the energy balance sheet and sustainability. www.expoaustria.at |
