Wearing breathing masks at the computer

What we have to endure by way of toxic emissions on the small building site of our EXPO pavilion is really unreasonable. Sometimes we sit at our computers wearing breathing masks, whilst the Chinese workers work unprotected the whole day with epoxy resins and paints and other chemicals. The workers can't be envied in other ways either: they live directly on the Expo site, work endless hours without a break, their shifts run around the clock. The building sites here never sleep!

We have been told that about 50,000 people once lived in the area of the EXPO site. The families were apparently resettled, without much discussion, in new apartment buildings on the outskirts of the city, four hours outside Shanghai. That's China for you...
